Last Seen Offline

Somewhere in the last few years, being reachable became the default state of a person. Online is where we live; the room is where we visit. But the most interesting apps right now are running the other way. Dinners with strangers, run clubs, parties in living rooms. Software whose success is measured by how little you look at it.

I've spent the past weeks reading everything I could find about this shift: the research, the products, the failures. Now comes the making. Over the next two months I'll be posting snippets from that research, each paired with an interface exploration it points toward, designed in public as I go.
